The hand is half-decided before regular play even starts.
Six passes, and they go fast. You are still sorting your rack while the tiles are already moving, and you pass something you need three turns later.
Beginners are told the Charleston matters. Almost nobody is told how to think during it.
Written for the moment you actually panic.
Most Charleston advice is written as if you had time to think. You do not — the tiles are already moving.
So this guide is built around the decision, not the theory: what to look at first, what to release, what to protect, and how to re-read the rack once the passes come back. Every step was tested on beginners at real tables until they stopped freezing.
You're playing a 2468 line. You have a pair of 6s and two Jokers.
Instinct says: use a Joker to fill one of the Pairs. But you can't. Jokers are strictly forbidden in Pairs — only allowed in groups of three or more.
With the official card alone you would pause and re-read mid-game. One glance at the Yellow Box tells you exactly where Jokers are banned. Decision made in two seconds.

Inside The Charleston Beginner Guide
A step-by-step method for deciding what to pass — and what to protect.
Rack organisation first
How to sort before the first pass so the decision gets easier, not faster.
What to pass, by situation
Three-tile passes, the first left, across, right sequence, and how the picture changes each time.
What to protect
Pairs worth keeping, Jokers, Flowers, and the tiles that keep two directions open.
The Second Charleston
When to continue it, when to stop it, and what a stopped Charleston tells you about the table.
Blind passes
When they're legal and how to use them without wrecking your hand.
Re-reading your rack after
The reassessment most beginners skip.
Pass with a reason, not a reflex
You will know what to protect, what to release, when to stop the second Charleston, and how to re-read your rack once the tiles come back.
The pace stops feeling fast, because you already know what you are looking for.

7 questions answered
Do I need the current card?
It helps, but the method works with any year's card.
How do I access my files after purchase?
Two ways. The download link appears on the order confirmation screen the moment payment goes through, and the same link is emailed to you within about a minute.
Keep that email — the link stays live, so you can re-download whenever you need.
Can I get a refund?
Because these are digital files delivered instantly, purchases are non-refundable and orders cannot be cancelled once the link has been issued.
That said, this policy is not a way to avoid problems. If a link fails, a file will not open, you were charged twice, or you received the wrong product, contact us — we will replace the files or refund you.
Can I print the guides?
All of them. Every file is built for a home printer on standard paper, with type sized to stay readable when printed. Many customers print the Cheat Sheet and keep it beside the card.
Are updates included?
Yes, within the year you bought. If we correct or improve a guide you own, the updated file appears at your existing download link at no cost.
The Mastery Bundle and Date Night Bundle also include next year's Cheat Sheet free when the new card is released.
Are you affiliated with other companies?
No. Mahjong Key operates exclusively under its own name and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the National Mah Jongg League, any other brand, seller, or third-party product.
If you buy Mah Jongg material from another source, it is not ours — we cannot vouch for its accuracy and cannot support it. To be sure you are getting the real thing, buy only through our official channels.
How can I reach out to you?
Use our contact page and we will get back to you. We aim to reply within one working day.
